JCRB Cell Bank-History In 1985, Japanese Cancer Research Resources Bank (JCRB) was established in the National Institute of Hygienic Health Sciences, a predecessor of the current the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) in Tokyo. The basal management solution of cell bank was introduces from ATCC. In 1995, JCRB changed the name to Japanese Collection of Research Bioresources. The distribution section was separated from JCRB, and non-free distribution was started by Health Sciences Research Resources Bank (HSRRB) established by the Japan Health Sciences Foundation. In 2005, the National Institute of Biomedical Innovation (NIBIO) was established. JCRB Cell Bank was transferred from NIHS to NIBIO, and accordingly, was moved from Tokyo to Ibaraki city, Osaka. In 2013 HSRRB was closed and the distribution of cell lines is run by the JCRB. In 2015, the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN) was founded by combining the National Institute of Biomedical Innovation (NIBIO) and the National Institute of Health and Nutrition (NIHN).
